CAF provides a number of direct services for low-to-moderate income families. Our programs focus on providing families with the tools to build assets in this country. Programs include:
Casa y Comunidad (Home and Community Program) is an asset-building initiative that provides low-income families with a number of homeownership and wealth building services including financial counseling and education, foreclosure prevention and mitigation, pre-purchase consultation, credit counseling, saving programs such as Individual Development Accounts (IDA), and free tax preparation.
Los Conectores (The Connectors Program) is a capacity building and leadership program that prepares faith-based leaders to act as a bridge between their congregations and their communities.
Elderly Program targets low-income elders to learn and engage in activities as a group in areas such as health education, financial mentorship for younger generations, arts & crafts, building healthy relationships, and others.
Mortgage Default Toll Free Line is a customized phone counseling program designed for faith-based institutions to refer homeowners who are either delinquent on their mortgage or facing foreclosure. 1-877-43-FAITH connects families with a local experienced foreclosure counselor who provides phone counseling and/or referral services to an HUD approved housing counseling agency located near the client.
Free Tax Preparation Program (VITA) delivers free tax preparation programs for low-income communities in Maryland and Massachusetts. CAF also helps eligible families access the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) and connects families with asset building programs available in the community while providing money management workshops for families that receive the tax preparation services.
Homeownership Program provides families with the tools and information they need to become sustainable homeowners. The program offers educational seminars and one-on-one counseling sessions with our professional housing counselors. Our program helps families assess and understand their credit report, choose a mortgage, learn about budgeting, saving, and how to access down payment and legal assistance programs available in the state.
