About Us

History

Centro de Apoyo Familiar began operations in 2006 in Lawrence, Massachusetts where a strong network of collaborating organizations and sense of leadership was formed. CAF was founded by Walkiria Pool and Damaris Batista. CAF got its initial support from the clergy community in the city of Lawrence.

Mission

Centro de Apoyo Familiar (CAF) is a non-profit organization committed to building healthy communities by providing social service referrals, counseling and support services, and opportunities for economic empowerment to Latino families.

Core Values

CAF’s mission is guided by two core values—community involvement and hands-on learning. The participation of community organizations and individuals is essential for the development of appropriate strategies to establish and strengthen a sense of ownership and commitment. Hands-on learning provides the opportunity to reflect on one’s own sense of purpose and fosters social responsibility and a caring attitude for others.

Goals

The overall goal of CAF is to assist and empower families to obtain a clear vision for their lives and to receive the support to make it a reality.

Objectives

In order to produce true sustainable individual as well as community change, CAF has two principle objectives: (1) Guide low- to moderate-income families to find the resources and support needed to achieve their goals. (2) Create a centralized location where an array of services will be delivered through an individualized case management and educational system.
